Island of Saba Landing HD Video (not for the faint of heart;)

Tiny plane, volcanic island and the world’s shortest international runway. What could go wrong? :)

I was fortunate to be one of the first people back on the island after it was locked down for COVID for a year. At roughly 5 sq. miles in size, a population of less than 2,000 people and located about a 3 hour flight southeast of Miami, this tiny Dutch island was one of the most unique places I've ever visited. There are no direct flights from the USA, so I went to St Maarten first and took the short 15 minute flight shown here.

The entire island is one giant volcano with the landscape consisting almost entirely of cliffs! The environment is so extreme, there is only one road, which connect the airport and seaport. They call it the "Impossible Road" since the Dutch engineers thought it would be impossible to build, but the locals were able to do so.

Christopher Columbus spotted the island in 1493, but since it has no natural beaches (only cliffs) he thought it was too dangerous to try to go ashore. Not having beaches definitely hurts the tourism on the tiny Caribbean island, so they had the ingenious idea to start a Medical school there and that supports the majority of the locals. Other activities include jewelry making, SCUBA diving and hiking.
