The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is an English breed of dog. The breed was created by combining the English Bull Terrier with the White English Terrier and the Dalmatian. The breed was primarily bred for dog fighting, but has been used as a mascot for British soldiers, a farm dog, and a family pet. The breeds were mixed in order to produce a dog that would not be as large as the English Bull Terrier or as clumsy as the Dalmatian. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was developed in the 19th century in Great Britain and is the result of crossing three different breeds ; the English Bull Terrier, White English Terrier, and Dalmatian. It is a medium-sized dog with a muscular body and an athletic build, which means that it is still able to move quickly. Because of the mixed heritage of this breed, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has developed into three different size categories; standard (23–25 inches), miniature (17–19 inches), and toy (13–15 inches).
