आसान नहीं है जैन मुनि बनना।

आपने कभी न कभी जैन मुनियों को देखा होगा। देखने में वो बहुत सरल लगते हैं किंतु उनका जीवन उतनी ही कठिनाइयों से भरा होता है। आइए हम आपको बताते हैं कि एक जैन मुनि को किन किन नियमों का पालन करना पड़ता है।
जैन मुनियों में से दिगम्बर मुनि नग्न रहते हैं। वातावरण चाहे जैसा भी हो, उन्हें किसी भी प्रकार के वस्त्र पहनने की अनुमति नहीं होती। ये त्याग की साक्षात प्रतिमूति होते हैं।
आहार मनुष्य की मूलभूत आवश्यकता है। परन्तु जैन मुनियों के लिए 24 घंटों में केवल एक बार ही अन्न- जल ग्रहण करने का नियम है। वो भी बिना याचना के।
जहां हम वाहनों के बिना कहीं आ जा नहीं सकते। वहीं जैन मुनियों के लिए सवारी वर्जित है इसलिए अगर हजार कि.मी. भी जाना हो तो पैदल ही जाना होता है और बे रात्रि में यात्रा नहीं कर सकते।
एक और कष्टप्रद नियम है... जिसके अनुसार जैन मुनियों को अपने सिर तथा दाढ़ी-मूछों के बाल दो-चार महीने में हाथों से खींचकर निकालने पड़ते हैं। सोचकर ही आंखों में अश्रु आ जाते हैं।
