ADAPTABILITY

A D A P T A B I L I T Y

Adaptability is a core principle within stance that most people never truly develop in their dry-fire or on a flat range, and it shows the moment they step into a class or onto a match stage. This is especially common with military and law enforcement shooters who have spent a significant amount of time working from more static positions.

When you are moving, everything is in motion except the exact point you have chosen on the target. That point remains constant, and your job is to manage the gun so your sights can settle and work within that space as efficiently as possible. The mistake most people make is trying to apply a static stance to a practical movement instead of allowing their position to evolve and adapt.

Blending a stable shooting position into a moving engagement demonstrates true understanding. It shows that you can adapt your stance in real time as the problem changes, rather than forcing the gun to perform from a position that no longer supports it. That is a skill set that should be built deliberately on a flat range and in your dry-fire, where there is no external pressure and you have the ability to observe, adjust, and refine.

Using the SEE. FEEL. DO. framework gives you a structured way to evaluate what is actually happening. You see the result on target, you feel what the gun is doing in your hands, and you make an immediate correction based on that feedback in real-time. This is how you begin to separate productive behavior from inefficient habits.

If you expect the gun to behave differently, you have to change what you are doing behind it. Adaptability is not automatic. It is trained, and it is earned through awareness, intent, and repetition.

Take-away Drill:
• 2-static blending into 2-moving in all directions.

• 2-static blending into 4-moving in all directions.
