Why did Japanese people worship the "gods of TOILETS?" #Shorts
Worshipping the toilet gods was believed to lead to having a healthy child. It has also been believed that they would protect pregnant women during childbirth.
The indigenous religion of Japan is polytheism, and it believes that everything can be a god and has souls in them. Since ancient times, Japanese people have worshipped the gods of mountains, valleys, rivers, oceans, stones, individual people, and even the gods of kitchens and storerooms.
The “god of toilets” was one of these few million gods that exists in Japan.
In ancient times, mothers would give birth to babies at their homes, and it was believed that the toilet gods were the most accepting towards “blood” which was considered impure by most gods in Japan.
3 days after the baby is born, the people at the time would hold a special ritual where they would worship the toilet gods specifically, to express their gratitude and wish for the baby's health, probably because many babies in the past died from improper defecation.
In some regions (Nagano prefecture), they had a culture of serving a meal set for the toilet gods at the end of the year, and all the family members
gathering together and saying their appreciation at once.
