Van Conversion Electrical For Dummies
#vanlife #rampromaster #vanconversion
Figuring out the electrical for your van conversion is an overwhelming task…….especially when you don’t know the first thing about it. In this video I talk about the process I went through when wiring up my metal box. It’s not gonna be the best electrical video out there, but it’s something.
I tried to break things into different segments so the entire process is easier to follow. That's why things may seem out of order from time to time. I start out with the batteries, then jump into the AC around 7:10, then onto DC at the 10:00 min mark, next I talk about the voltage relay sensor at 17:30, and I finally end on the shore power around 24:00 minutes. So feel free to jump around!
Solar is a separate video!
If you want a more professional approach to van conversion electrical, go check out Travel With Jaz’s channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/jazoner1) and his conversion series. Even though he’s from Australia and the electrical is a little different there, he’s far more knowledgeable when it comes to this type of thing.
I also wanted to give a quick shout out to Trent and Allie (https://tinyurl.com/yy38dybw) for helping me with all the random questions I had throughout this portion of the build!
Supplies and Tools
Once I figured out what I wanted in the van and the amount of power everything was going to require, I began ordering a bunch of stuff. Those first things included batteries, wires, fuses, heat shrink, butt terminals, etc. I guess I’ll just list all the supplies I used….

Lug Crimping Tool : https://amzn.to/2NRENsL
All in all I think this took me around a full week working about 8 hours a day to get this all buttoned up. Keep in mind I had help from three other people during most of the process. I guess this could go a lot quicker if I didn’t put so much shit in the van!
