2020 Mercedes Vito vs Volkswagen T6.1 Caravelle
2020 Mercedes-Benz Vito vs 2020 Volkswagen T6.1 Caravelle
A year after the restyling of the luxury Mercedes-Benz V-Class minivan, Daimler updated its commercial brother - Mercedes-Benz Vito.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has now started taking orders for the facelifted Transporter/Caravelle 6.1, which arrives in dealers in March 2020.
Outside, the family of commercial minibuses Mercedes-Benz Vito has not practically changed: they can be distinguished from their predecessors only by the double louvres of the false radiator grille (chrome lining can also be ordered for them) and the new design of the rims (17, 18 or 19-inch) .
The visual appearance of the 2020 Transporter/Caravelle doesn’t differ greatly from the current model. The only notable differences are to the grille, lights and front bumper.
The split grille design of the previous generation has been integrated into one, large grille, which helps increase the airflow to the engines, which have been slightly optimised to meet the latest emission standard. The headlights are slightly narrower and the fog light surrounds have also been altered.
Inside Mercedes Vito there is a new upholstery of seats, vents of the ventilation system with radial blades instead of the previous horizontal ones, a digital rear-view mirror (option), a glossy black frame for the center console (option) and an updated top-end multimedia system with a 7-inch touch screen, which now supports smartphone interfaces Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The arsenal of active safety systems was supplemented by the Distronic adaptive cruise control, combined with an automatic emergency braking system.
Inside Volkswagen Transporter/Caravelle T6.1 you’ll find a completely overhauled dashboard, which not only manages to provide additional storage but a more car-like look complete with the option of a new-generation integrated MIB3 infotainment system with a 9.2-inch touchscreen, and even digital dials to replace the conventional gauges.
Under the skin, things get even more interesting. Like the latest VW Crafter, the T6.1 adopts electromechanical power steering in place of the older hydraulicall-assisted system. This enables a number of new safety and convenience features, including automatic Crosswind Assist (as standard), lane-keeping assist and automatic parking.
The Volkswagen Transporter 6.1 also uses a 2.0-liter diesel, though it makes 150 hp (112 kW). The Mercedes Vito is the runt of the pack with a 136-hp (101-kW) 2.2-liter diesel.
Prices for new Volkswagen Transporter/Caravelle T6.1 now very between 22000 € to 30000€ for the standard Startline and a whopping € 28000 and €38000for the Highline.
The 2020 Vito will go up for order on April 1st and German pricing starts at 22 600 €, excluding a 19 % VAT.
