Air Supply was a soft music group that was created in the mid 1970’s. It all started with two talented, elegant, and handsome men. Both of these men came from different backgrounds. One of the group members was an Englishmen named Graham Russell, and the other was an Australian named Russell Hitchcock. Russell was born June 1, 1950 in Nottigham, England. Russell started as an English guitarist and vocalist. Russell Hitchcock was born on June 15, 1949 in Melbourne, Australia. Russell was also a vocalist. According to Musictrax, the duo met in May 1975 where they performed an Australian Production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Jesus Christ Superstar (MusicStarX). Russell and Graham continued singing together until they hit jackpot and created their group Air Supply in 1976. From there are Air Supply was making it big. Air Supply added new group members in which they added the “extra spice” that Air Supply needed to be a successful band. Air Supply added arranger and keyboardist Frank Esler-Smith, guitarists David Moyse and Rex Goh, bassist David Green, and drumist Ralph Cooper. Through the years together they made awesome hit love songs and went on many tours around the globe which included Hawaii, Philippines, United Kingdom, and the United States. Critics called Air Supply, the most “Successful Pop Group” and “Best Pop Group” of 1981 (Bands). Air Supply had its moments when the group split up in 1981. Russell and Graham surprisingly made it big on their own with hit their own hit singles. Further down the road, their paths collided and the group Air Supply reunited in 1991 and more magic came upon Russell and Graham. Regardless of the long breakup, Air Supply was able to keep the magic alive. The band as of 2012 is still going strong and are performing in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Columbia.

Air Supply achieved many awards especially with their music. Some of the songs that won the BMI award are All Out of Love, Lost In Love, The One That You Love, Sweet Dreams, Making Love Out Of Nothing At All, Here I Am, Even The Nights Are Better, and Do Less Lonely People in the World. Other awards that they earned are the Top Hit Singles. Some of the songs that made the list were #2 Lost in Love on 05/3/1980, #5 Here I Am on 11/21/1981, #5 Sweet Dreams on 03/20/1982, and at #1 is The One That You Love on 08/08/1981. Some of the personal recognitions that I find are very important is the fact that Air Supply’s Greatest Hits reached 5 million copies in September 1993, Air Supply was awarded Best in Foreign Language in the recent Lunas del Auditorio Awards in September 2004, Air Supply was named the Best Pop Rock Group of 1981, and most recently they were feted with the Excellence in Music Award at the 9th annual G’Day USA Black Tie Gala. The manager of 30 years for Air Supply told Hollywood Reporters, “It’s a real honor to be with them.” (Amter). I find these awards to be very important because I believe this group is the best Pop Rock Group of its time. The awards they won they earned through their wonderful music, and their manager was honor to have been a part of Air Supply.
