I am pleased to share an exclusive glimpse into what diving in the Red Sea was like over half a century ago. In the 1970s, I founded Red Sea Divers, a pioneering diving tourism operation in the Red Sea. Later, I founded Fantasea Cruises, one of the first live-aboard operations in the region, which explored the reefs of the entire Red Sea and the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, an island nation in the Indian Ocean. In 2009, I was inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame. In 2026, I was awarded the prestigious NOGI for Distinguished Service by the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences, a recognition from my professional peers that means a lot to me.
