Fingerstyle Guitar: Martin Taylor plays "Georgia On My Mind"

Martin Taylor teaches fingerstyle guitar online at ArtistWorks. Click here for free sample lessons: http://bit.ly/2GAQTQK

One of the first things we did after launching the Fingerstyle Guitar school (http://artistworks.com/martin-taylor) was record Martin’s set at Yoshi’s Jazz Club in San Francisco. He played a lot of classic jazz guitar standards, many of which he also teaches at ArtistWorks. In this video he plays "Georgia on My Mind," which has been covered countless times by so many different artists.

Although it was made popular by Ray Charles’ 1960 version, the song was originally written and recorded by Hoagie Carmichael in 1930. Willie Nelson won a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his 1978 version, and it became the official state song of Georgia the following year.

Good news: Martin Taylor teaches this song in the fingerstyle curriculum at ArtistWorks so sure to check it out in the "Learn By Playing Tunes" section. There’s also a lot of great Video Exchanges® where Martin gives advice to students who have have submitted videos of themselves playing this song.

If you enjoyed this one, there’s 7 other performances from this Yoshi’s set that Martin’s students have access to in the +Music area - along with many other performances and interviews with some great guest musicians. http://bit.ly/2GAQTQK
