In this video I talk about how to become a video editor and make over Rs. 2,000/hr as a freelancer. I've been editing videos for over two years now and have edited over 400 videos so far. 👉1. Storytelling is crucial
As a video editor, it's important to understand the narrative of how a video is progressing.

Understanding how the platform works on which the video will be uploaded. On YT, it's a lot more about keeping the audience engaged. This could be done through zoom in/out, using effects, transitions, lower thirds, backgrounds, shapes, mockups and more. You can either make these yourself using the editing software or use templates to save time.

I’ve recently started doing the latter using platforms like Envato. On IG, it is important to write subtitles, use gifs, memes, anything that keeps the person entertained and watching for a longer time.

👉2. Learn the Editing Softwares:
Premiere Pro, After Effects
Final Cut Pro
Da Vinci Resolve
Learning the basics of how to use the editing tools is important. You can get free or paid software.

I personally used Shotcut for the first 100 or so videos that I edited. I then tried Premiere Pro, Da Vinci Resolve and ultimately chose Final Cut Pro X on my MacBook Air.

👉3. When Should You Start Searching for Clients?
Learn Basic Design Skills like colour contrast, symmetry, typography, and framing, this can be done with youtube tutorials or paid courses.

Learn to use the effects, transitions, titles that we previously talked about.
Define what type of videos do you want to create? - talking head videos, motion graphics and animated videos, a mix of both.
Also learn a bit about sound design.

👉4. What I learned from reviewing 100s of video editor portfolios
Lack of variation in work reflected in the portfolio.
You don’t need to show all of your work.

👉5. How to Get Paying Freelance Clients as a Video Editor
You can try to bid your services on freelancing platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, the best way would be to use LinkedIn. Find out startups that recently got their Seed or Series A funding and try to approach the employees asking if you need their ads to be edited or their youtube/IG videos be edited.
