Amidst the criticism of Delhi Police's handling of violence that took place northeast Delhi that started on February 23 leading to the deaths of over 50 people, Home Minister Amit Shah praised the police's handling of the clashes. Mr Shah said that the violence was "brought under control within 36 hours". BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi blamed Congress President Sonia Gandhi's speech and AIMIM leader Waris Pathan's provocative statements as having set the grounds for unrest in various parts of Delhi.
