TOP 10 DRUMMERS THAT CAN SING! KEN TAMPLIN VOCAL ACADEMY

As a Master Vocal Coach, I have really come to appreciate instrumentalists learning how to sing.

Why?

Because instrumentalists understand what it takes to get good at something.

They realize the more they invest into their craft, the more they will get out of it.

This couldn't be more true for singing!

So I am making a few videos of instrumentalists who took up singing.

Here are some fun facts about the drummers in this video:
Don Henley
Henley cut back on drumming as the years passed because of the bad back that he acquired as a result of drumming and singing at the same time.

Rock and roll wildman Mojo Nixon recorded 'Don Henley Must Die,' his famous anti-ode to the Eagles singer in the '80s. But it was Henley who had the last laugh when he showed up at one of Nixon's shows and joined Nixon onstage, much to Nixon's surprise. Of course, the two men are now friends.
Axl came down to add some background vocals to Henley's 'I Will Not Go Quietly' and Henley returned the favor a short time later when regular Guns N' Rosesdrummer Steven Adler was in rehab. GN'R were set to perform on the 1989 American Music Awards and they needed a drummer, so Henley filled in, drumming on the mellow 'Patience.'
Phil Collins
Collins was the only Live Aid performer who performed at both the U.S. concert and the U.K. concert

He Had More Top 40 Hits on the BillboardHot 100 During the 1980s Than Any Other Artist

Collins is one of just three people in the world who have sold more than 100 million albums around the world as part of a group and as solo musicians. The other two musicians are Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson.

The audition for the part of the drummer in Genesis was held at Peter Gabriel’s parents’ house. He arrived early and let other people audition before he did. By the time his audition rolled around, he had memorized the songs.
He’s played with numerous bands, including:
Journey, Bad English, Cacophony, Hardline, Planet Us,, Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, Paul Rodgers, Matthew Ward, Marty Friedman, Fear Factory, Johnny Gioeli.
Karen Carpenter - Whenever her brother, Dick, would play the piano she would start beating on the chair next to him.

She took up an instrument in high school as a way of dodging gym class. As she told People magazine, “I couldn’t stand track at 8 a.m. or a cold pool, so they put me in the band and gave me a glockenspiel.”

Peter Criss
Peter took some drum lessons from jazz legend Gene Krupa. Peter has said that he incorporated some of Krupa's drum techniques into his Kiss drum solos.
