Miami TSA Agents Caught on Camera Stealing Cash From Passenger Carry-ons

In 2023, Josue Gonzalez, Elizabeth Fuster, and Labarrius Williams — Transportation Security Officers assigned to Checkpoint E at Miami International Airport — were arrested after a months-long investigation uncovered a coordinated passenger-theft scheme operating inside one of the busiest airport checkpoints in the United States. Investigators alleged the trio exploited moments when passengers were separated from their belongings during TSA screening, stealing cash and valuables from wallets, purses, and carry-on bags while travelers stood inside body scanners only feet away. The investigation centered on a June 29, 2023 incident in which approximately $600 was allegedly removed from a passenger’s wallet, captured clearly on TSA surveillance footage. Detectives later reviewed additional recordings and identified what prosecutors described as a repeated “choreography” involving distractions, coordinated positioning, and thefts committed in plain view of overhead cameras. According to arrest reports, Gonzalez and Fuster admitted to participating in the thefts and told investigators the group averaged roughly $1,000 per day in stolen passenger cash. All three officers were arrested on July 6, 2023, inside the TSA Command Center at the airport and booked into Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center in Miami-Dade County. Prosecutors later dropped charges against Fuster, while Gonzalez entered a deferred prosecution program requiring restitution, community service, and permanent surrender of his TSA credentials. As of the latest publicly available reporting, Williams’ case remains pending with no publicly verified trial verdict. TSA terminated all three employees following the arrests.
