Sony AIBO ERS-210 Jitters Repair

This 210 came in with some pretty bad jitters (especially on the tail and front left leg) so after a round of Aibo Therapy without much help I went in and cleaned most of his pots accompanied by manual therapy.

In servomotors, a potentiometer works as a feedback sensor that tells the motor how and the degree that it is rotating. This is done by implementing a resistive material called a resistive strip, or track, on the potentiometer washer, and a contact called a wiper which is attached to the motor’s shaft. When the wiper brushes against this resistive material, it gives out a reading about the motor’s rotation.

Sometimes the resistive strip gets dirty with dust or debris, which in turn messes up this sensor and gives out random and often sporadic readings. This is what causes jitters and cleaning or manually moving the part can free up this dust.

Hope you learned something.
