Grief doesn’t pause for protocol—or for the grocery store.
In the surreal days after 9/11, we were invited to the Canadian Consulate to meet Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. A Canadian widow in America, suddenly face to face with my country’s leader. It was an honor, but also… strange. How had my life come to this?
And then, there was the first grocery shop. A seemingly normal task that felt anything but. Maneuvering through the aisles, happy to be getting back to "normal" until I picked up the Ruffles—Arron's favorite chips. I remember staring at the bag, realizing that even the simplest things had become something else entirely.
Life moved forward, even when I wasn’t ready. But through it all, there was community. There was support. People were showing up in ways big and small.
