A skeptic asked if God is Nothing or something during Q&A with Dr Frank Turek
In a challenging apologetics conference, several difficult questions were raised about the existence of God, divine foreknowledge, hell, and morality.
The first question was: "If God created the universe, then who created God?" Christians believe that everything that begins to exist has a cause. The universe began to exist, therefore it requires a cause. God, however, did not begin to exist. God is understood as the eternal, uncaused First Cause. Asking "Who created God?" assumes God is a created being, which is contrary to the biblical and philosophical understanding of God as eternal.
The second question concerned divine foreknowledge and hell: "Why would God create people knowing they would eventually be lost, such as Judas?" Christian apologists argue that God created humans with genuine free will. Love and meaningful relationships require freedom. Although God knows future choices, His knowledge does not force those choices. Judas freely chose his actions despite numerous opportunities to repent and follow Christ faithfully.
The third question addressed morality as evidence for God's existence. The Moral Argument states that if objective moral values and duties exist, there must be an objective moral foundation beyond humanity. Many Christian philosophers argue that this foundation is God. Without God, morality would ultimately be reduced to personal preference, social convention, or evolutionary instinct rather than objective moral truth.
These questions have been discussed by leading Christian apologists including Frank Turek, William Lane Craig, John Lennox, Greg Koukl, Sean McDowell, Alister McGrath, and C.S. Lewis. Their work explores the rational basis for Christian belief, the evidence for God's existence, the reliability of the New Testament, and the relationship between faith and reason.
This discussion demonstrates that Christianity welcomes serious questions and encourages thoughtful investigation into truth, philosophy, morality, and the evidence for the Christian faith.
