- Actress Mary Steenburgen was Clara in BTTF Part 3 (1990), a love interest to Doc Brown. She was fascinated with the early science fiction stories of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea author Jules Verne.
- Hideaki Anno envisioned the animation world of Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water for the NHK TV series which broadcast between 1990-1991. The story has Captain Nemo & The Nautilus fight an alien / colonial invasion composed of the remnants of Atlantis.
