London panorama from Westminster Cathedral roof 1951
From 1948 to 1955 my father, John O'Brien, was private Secretary to the Administrator at Westminster Cathedral. The cathedral is in Victoria Street, Westminster, not far from Victoria station.
At some point my father acquired a set of ten large black and white photo prints, which together form a panorama of London taken from the roof of the cathedral.
I have assembled these into a sequence, and tried to identify some landmarks, including the one which I think clinches the year - the dome of the Festival of Britain under construction on the South Bank.
This is an update to a video I posted a while back. I’ve added a soundtrack: “Unforgettable”, which was first a hit for Nat King Cole in 1951.
