Mumty Parapet Wall Construction – Avoid Cracks Between Slab & Wall

When constructing the parapet wall near the mumty (stair room on the roof), many people make a common mistake that later causes cracks between the slab and the parapet wall.

The best solution is to build an RCC (reinforced concrete) parapet wall so the structure remains monolithic and crack-free.

However, if the budget is limited and you must build a brick parapet wall, then at least take these precautions:
✔ Take L-shaped rebars out from the slab
✔ Keep the rebars vertical and build brick masonry on both sides
✔ Fill the middle portion with 3–4 inches of concrete

This will significantly reduce the chances of cracks. Simply installing mesh or wire net will not permanently solve this problem.

Proper structural connection between slab and parapet wall is the key to durability.
