Michael Scruggs, 23. Born and raised in Virginia, Michael always held a passion for storytelling and film. Michael aspires to be a working professional screenwriter and someday become a director. He officially launched his writing career in 2017, as a journalist. Michael wrote movie articles, reviews, editorials, and more. Writing for companies such as MoviesMatrix, Heroic Hollywood, and Superbro Movies. Eventually, in early 2019, Michael transitioned to screenwriting. Officially writing his last article in March 2020. His biggest inspirations are Cooper Raif, Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater, David Lynch, Alexander Payne, and James Wan. Michael has a total of 18 screenplays written with 5 of them being feature films. The rest consists of short story screenplays. Michael’s genre focus is thriller and coming-of-age. He has a total of three short films, one of which will soon be released. With two more currently in the works. For the future of his career, Michael desires to write and create low-budget, small-scale movies. Examples: Shithouse (2020), Bluejay (2016), It Follows (2014), and Submarine (2010). For companies such as IFC Films, NEON, Film4, The Orchard, A24, etc. His goals in becoming a screenwriter/filmmaker are to enjoy the process, move audiences emotionally, improve his craft, write things that he’s proud of & mean something to him, get repped by a manager/agent, sell a project, have fun while writing, inspire younger generations, get projects produced, and become a professional screenwriter. Michael’s next couple of screenplays will be coming-of-age/romance stories.
