The Gamkaskloof (The "Hell") Swartberg Mountains (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

This video offers an overview of the scenic drive to the Gamkaskloof also known by locals as "The Hell". The road to the Gamkaskloof starts at the northern summit of the Swartberg Pass from where the turn-off takes you west on a 2 hour drive covering 37 kilometres of gravel road.

The first farmers "Klowers" settled in 1830 and lived in total isolation from the outside world. The highlight of the journey is the 580 meter decent down the narrow pass (Elandspad) that levels-off in the fertile Gamkaskloof.

Overnight facilities consist mostly of the restored "klowers" houses and offer a unique experience of a bygone era.
