The 50 Year Journey // The Expulsion of Asians from Uganda
Welcome to our project to mark the 50th anniversary of the Ugandan Asian Journey from 1972-2022.
Uganda 50 will see the Documentary Media Centre working with a range of partners to explore, celebrate and raise awareness of the last 50 years of Ugandan Asians in Leicester.

The Documentary Media Centre is an independent museum, archive & library – registered with AiM (Association of Independent Museums) and is now permanently located at 14 Northampton Street, Leicester LE1 1PA.
It operates along the lines of a ‘community of practice’ model:
- it identifies and connects with active documentarians via the Parallel Lives project – practitioners located across Latin America, West & East Africa, South Asia, and South-East Asia.
- it provides researchers, educators and students, access to this documentary media content through its museum exhibits, archive and library of documentary films, photography, audio, and new media.
- it organizes ‘Doc Media for Learning’ events throughout the year.
