Ice Queen of Kungur: Visit off-limit areas in Russia’s most stunning glacier cave

Kungur Ice Cave is one of the most beautiful glacier caves in the world. Located in the Ural Mountains of Russia, its ever changing network of grottos adorned with intricate ice crystals attracts 100,000 visitors a year.

RTD accompanies cave divers and biologists to a restricted part of the cave, as they make a new discovery in one of the cavern’s 170 lakes. Above ground, RTD inspects the damage caused by a geological phenomenon known as karst, which causes the land to sink due to erosion in the caves. Local scientists and town planners tell RTD how they are trying to keep their community from being swallowed into the earth. Another of Kungur Ice Cave's gems is the Singing Stone, which is rumoured to have the power to change the future. In fact, it is said to have fulfilled the romantic aspirations of a royal descendant of Queen Victoria!
