The French hope to give the MPV a more distinct look starting 2020, when the facelift version will hit the market. The changes are not extensive, but are well enough aimed to make a difference. The biggest change is the inclusion of LED adaptive headlamps, a hardware Renault never used before in its range, and meant, aside for the functionality perks, to give the Espace a sharper look.

The front bumper has been restyled, as has the rear one. There, the Espace comes with a new skid plate, but also with new oval exhaust outlets – two of them – and full LED lights.

Just as the variants that preceded it, the new Espace is to be offered in two seating configurations, capable of carrying either a maximum of five or seven passengers. All will enjoy the comfort of new upholstery materials and colors.

For the top of the range Initiale Paris version, leather is of course the name of the game, with two variants of Nappa being offered, in either Black Titanium or Light Sand-Grey.

The seats, apparently all of them, come with massage capabilities and can be adjusted in 10 ways, are heated and ventilated.

The biggest novelty as far as the interior goes is the fact that all models, regardless of trim, come with a 2.8-square meters glass roof.

Loading capacity for the new Espace is befitting a car of its class, namely 2,101 liters.

The interior of the new Espace has been built with modern-day tech in mind, and although it carries over most of the features of the present generation, there are some noticeable changes.

Restyling has been done to the suspended center console, which now includes a new closed storage area with up-holders, two USB plugs and a jack plug, and to the ventilation dials that are now using a digital display.

For screens, the French carmaker went for hardware ranging in size from 9.3 to 10.2 inches. The larger one, offered on the Initiale Paris, is accompanied by an immersive 3D navigation option.

Part of the Renault Easy Link suite of features, the Espace is also gifted with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Google address search, fuel prices and traffic information in real time.

Engine-wise, the new Espace will rely, at least for the time being, on three engines, one gasoline and two diesel.

The gasoline one is the same used on the high-performance Alpine A110, namely a 1.8-liter four-cylinder called in Renault speak TCe 225 EDC FAP. Mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, it develops 225 hp.

The diesel is the represented by the Blue dCi 160 and 200 EDC, both 2.0-liter in displacement and working in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The range of safety systems fitted on the MPV makes for a very compelling offering, especially when it comes to the driver assistance features that make the Espace a Level 2 autonomous car.

The car packs the Multi-Sense suite, is equipped with four-wheel steering, which in turn is paired to adjustable damping.

The LED headlamps fitted on the Espace contribute to the safety of the people inside too, as the high beams used are advertised as more efficient and safe than ever.
