2019 6x12 Cargo trailer/ stealth camper conversion – Fully off grid capable

If you’re an outdoor adventurer with the expensive gear to go with it, look no further than this home on wheels that provides the comfort, locked storage, and mobility to seek out your next adventure location.

When we started this build, we had four main concerns to address:
1. After having a bike stolen off the rack on the back of our vehicle, we wanted a secure, out of sight place to keep our bikes, totes full of climbing gear, and other expensive gear.
2. After being out all day, coming back exhausted and ragged we wanted an oversized, super comfortable sleeping space. None of that being mashed together on a thin, lumpy, small bed...
3. We wanted to be able to clean off - so an outside (hot) shower was necessary.
4. And finally, we needed to be able to eat...well. Not just canned food, but actual vegetables and perishables. So we needed a refrigerator.

So this is what we built. The garage area consumes the extra space where you might have a dining table or chairs - but this did not concern us. We never intended to 'hang out' much inside. And the peace of mind from having our high-dollar bikes locked up and under cover is well worth it.

Plug in up to 30 amps with the supplied power cord, or use the adapter for 120 volts – or just go completely off grid for days/weeks (depending on your sun exposure and energy usage)
The solar is powered by (2) 100 watt monocrystalline solar panels
The solar controller is a 20amp EPEVER MPPT
1500 watt Pure Sine Wave inverter
The batteries are (2) 100 amp hour AGL - so there is 100 usable amp hours if you follow the recommendation to not exceed 50% usage.
The batteries will charge via solar, or if the trailer is plugged in to 30amp or 120 shore power. I do not have it wired to charge off the tow vehicle while driving.

All the wiring was done with excessive overkill regarding the minimum gauges. I wanted everything to last and to charge/conduct energy as efficiently as possible so I used larger than required gauge wire thickness on all the 12 volt runs.

The 12 volt refrigerator/freezer works amazing and the solar had no issues keeping it constantly on during our summer trip.

Maybe you have another use for the ‘garage’ area. It measures 69” wide, by 35” high, by 62” deep.

Everything is still in like-new condition. We’ve towed the trailer approximately 4 to 5 thousand miles in total. It’s been out and used in all conditions, but we were fortunate enough to have a place to store it for the past two winters, so it has not seen prolonged winter exposure.

Everything was custom built to fit the unique shape of the front V-nose and to meet our demands as outdoor adventure seekers who do not want their gear stolen. I kept an eye towards detail to ensure that the build would be high quality, functional, and look good while still keeping a low profile and the stealth camper approach.
