Perspectives on the Growth of the American Economy, with Leonard Silk (1985)

Economist, author, and journalist Leonard Silk sheds light on the major themes that arise when considering the advancement of the American economy. He states that it is best practice to “peer backward” rather than forward to make some comparisons with where the American economy is currently situated. Silk addresses topics including whether America is facing a deflation, the war against inflation, why supply-side economics turned on its head for the sake of curing the Depression, the overvaluation of the dollar, and the long-ranging implications of world debt for both lending and borrowing nations. The lecture is followed by questions from the audience. Recorded November 27, 1985, at The 92nd Street Y, New York.
