iRobot Braava jet 240 - How to keep your tank from stinking

The iRobot Braava jet 240 is a great little floor mopping robot. One of the most attractive features of this household robot is the simplicity of the design. That is, there is very little maintenance or care that needs to be done. Run the robot, drop off the dirty pad with the press of a button, then drain the water tank. That's it! There is no other prep work aside from charging the battery. No intricate mechanisms to remove and manually clean.

That's all great, but there is one potential problem the compact and simplistic design can create - Your robot can stink! It's all too easy to drain the tank, then seal it right back up and set the robot off to the side until you need it again. This causes many people to develop a smelly water tank on their Braava jet. No matter how well you think you've drained the tank there will always be at least a teaspoon of trapped water. This is due to the design of the Braava's filter. I've found that it can take quite a few days of storing the robot with the water port open before the tank will naturally dry. Nobody wants a stinky robot, so you're faced with two options:

1- Drain the tank, then store the robot standing up with the battery side down and with the water port open. This will allow the tank to further drain and dry freely so it won't trap moisture that can develop smells and mold issues.

If that doesn't work and/or you need to store the robot quickly and without the port open. You may have company coming over. You may have limited storage and can't waste the space for storing vertically with a towel under it to catch the water...whatever the reason, there is option 2:

2- Remove the Braava's filter so you can drain the remaining water. This works! You will still need to manually wipe the tiny drops of remaining water with a paper towel, and I recommend you still let it sit vertically for a short bit to air dry what little moisture is left before you seal it up, but this should allow you to seal the robot without much worry of a smelly robot weeks later.
