Mexico City Walking Tour (Museo del Temple Mayor)

This is a video walking tour of the Museo de Templo Mayor in Mexico City. This was the main temple of the Mexica people in their capital city of Tenochtitlan. It was dedicated to both The God of War and the God of Rain and Agriculture, each having a separate shrine at the top of the pyramids with separate staircases. Construction of the first temple began sometime after 1325, and it was rebuilt six times. Those pesky Spanish destroyed the temple in 1521, and the Mexico City cathedral was built in its place. It wasn't until the early 20th century that parts of the original temple were discovered and displayed. Even then, professional excavation by archaeologists weren't initiated until 1978. In five years, they found more than 7,000 objects, including pottery, animal skeletons, coral, gold, alabaster, figurines, urns, masks, copper rattles, and decorated skulls and knives of obsidian and flint. These can all be found in the Templo Mayor Museum next door (watch the next video!). This site was amazing! Thanks for watching. Please LIKE, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE. I appreciate you!
