Learning Disability Week 2026 – “Do You See Me?” Podcast

This podcast has been produced by the Western Trust Community Learning Disability Nursing Service as part of Learning Disability Week 2026, led by the theme “Do You See Me?”

The theme encourages us to reflect on how people with learning disabilities are recognised, valued, included, and listened to within our communities and services. It is a reminder that every person has their own unique experiences, strengths, aspirations, and voice.

In this special episode, adults with learning disabilities take the lead by interviewing Community Learning Disability Nurses about their roles, the support they provide, and the importance of working in partnership with the people they serve. The conversation offers an opportunity to hear directly from people with lived experience and highlights the value of co-production, meaningful involvement, and person-centred care.

At the heart of this discussion is a simple but powerful question: “Do you see me?” Not just as someone who uses services, but as a person with skills, interests, relationships, ambitions, and a valuable contribution to make.

We are grateful to everyone who participated in this podcast and shared their experiences so openly. By listening to and learning from one another, we can continue to promote inclusion, challenge stereotypes, reduce health inequalities, and ensure that people with learning disabilities are seen, heard, respected, and supported to live the lives they choose.
