Techatticup Mine Nelson Ghost Town

Abandoned buildings, rusted-out vehicles, and remnants of its Wild West past. The Techatticup Mine, one of the oldest and most productive.

Name Techatticup derived from two Paiute words meaning “hungry” and “bread,” as many Paiutes in the surrounding barren hills are reported to have frequented the mining camps begging for food.

Paiute are indigenous peoples of the Great Basin, historically inhabiting areas in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Arizona. Classified into Northern and Southern groups, they traditionally lived as foragers, hunting and gathering in the desert climate. Today, they hold federal recognition, with various tribes operating in the American Southwest.
Several movies, including Breakdown (1997), 3,000 Miles to Graceland (2001), and Brute (1976), were filmed in Nelson, Nevada, utilizing the unique, historic landscape of the Nelson Ghost Town. Other productions have featured the location, such as music videos from artists like Journey and Beyoncé.
