🗺️ The Lehman Creek Trail is a challenging high-elevation hike in Great Basin National Park in remote eastern Nevada near the Nevada/Utah border, about 4 hours from Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. This lightly traveled hike climbs 2,000 feet to nearly 10,000 feet of elevation to the face of Wheeler Peak, the second highest peak in Nevada. 🏞️ It travels through several diverse habitats and provides access to alpine lakes, rare ancient trees, and Nevada's only glacier! ⛰️

Although the uphill climb can be challenging, the trail is suitable for families. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

The trail is open year-round. Be sure to pack your snowshoes for a magical WINTER or EARLY SPRING exploration! ❄️❄️❄️ ⋙ (We visited in early May and while snow shoes weren't needed to make it to the top, the trail was still covered with snow and ice in many of its sections.)

TIPS FOR VISITING GREAT BASIN NATIONAL PARK:

🚶🏼Things to do:
Great Basin National Park has no entry fees and offers lots of unique experiences: the second highest natural point in Nevada, the state's only glacier, rare ancient trees, clear alpine lakes, the longest cave system in Nevada, and more!

🗓️ Best time to visit:
While open year-round, fall, late spring, or summer is generally the best time for this hike. Access in the middle of the winter may be difficult due to cold temperatures and deep snow, yet until the Scenic Drive is open, the Lehman Creek Trail is THE ONLY ROUTE to the top. Other than that, peak season in Great Basin National Park runs roughly from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
