Triumph over Adversity
—African Americans on Maui Association is proud to present, “Triumph over Adversity” A look at two Black men whose lives and acts of human courage impacted a generation, how they broke through the issues of oppression that marred their way, and their rise to the top of their fields.
Triumph over Adversity is a triumph … filled with power, social justice, Triumph over Adversity honors the achievements of our ancestors, learning from the past to help guide and inspire us on our path to creating a better world.
Maui Resident, Heather Salmon will lecture on the African Diaspora. Ms. Salmon will present on her late father Dr. John Douglas Salmon, and Uncle David V. J. Bell, PhD. Both men, Salmon were Canada’s first black surgeon, and Bell, a Dean, author and leader in the sustainability movement. They were also musicians and family men. Both lost parents when they were children and went on to rise to the tops of their fields. This lecture and video presentation reveals the pioneering breakthroughs and accomplishments of our ancestors.
Heather will share stories about their lives and acts of human courage, how they broke through the issues of oppression that marred their way, and how their legacy continues to impact the world to this day. Heather Salmon is a renowned sound healer, ordained priestess, cultural creative innovator and recording artist. She leads spiritual, yoga and sound healing retreats, trainings, initiations and Mystical Alchemy Sound Healing Prayerformances dedicated to uplifting humanity, creatingpeace and healing our relationship with the earth.
