"I’ve led a charmed life. I work very hard but you know a lot of life is being lucky. And I’ve been very lucky."
Leon Cooperman graduated from Hunter College in 1965 and started his career at Xerox as a quality control engineer. A year later, he decided to pursue an MBA full-time at Columbia Business School and took a job at Goldman Sachs after graduating. In 1991, Leon left Goldman Sachs to found Omega Advisors, which is now a $9.4 billion New York-based hedge fund. He was voted the “#1 Portfolio Strategist” in the Institutional Investor All-America Research Team survey for 9 consecutive years and also made Bloomberg Markets Magazine’s “50 Most Influential”, Forbes’ “40 Highest-Earning Hedge Fund Managers”, and Forbes’ “Top 10 Overall Hedge Fund Managers” lists.
