The Best Red Bean Paste Buns in Seoul - Lee Sung Dang Cafe - Korean Desserts
One dessert I never miss to get my hands on in Seoul is the red bean paste bun. You can buy it everywhere around Seoul, but this time I decided to visit the mecca of red bean paste bun. The Lee Sung Dang Bakery.
Lee Sung Dang Bakery is apparently the oldest bakery in South Korea with the original store in city Gunsan since 1945.
They have one branch in Seoul, in the Lotte World Mall shopping mall and that’s where I went.
The bakery bakes a lot of other great bread (and Korean rice flour doughnuts), but the apparent hit are the red bean paste buns. They were disappearing in front of my eyes, and I almost had to fight my way through to get some. People absolutely love them.
I bought three versions reasonably priced between 1500 and 2000 won (£1-1.5). The very traditional one, the bun with red bean paste and saeng cream (fresh cream) which is an absolute hit and the one with the red bean paste and white butter.
Lee Sung Dang bakery make their own red bean paste and proudly put twice as much of it into their buns than any other competitor. At least that’s what they say, but I can confirm that the filling was genuinely generous.
These buns were absolutely spectacular. The quality of the red bean paste was stunning. Not too sweet and with small bits of beans here and there tickling on the tongue. The ultimate hit was the one with fresh cream. If you can imagine how bitting into the cloud would feel like you will correctly understand the beauty of this bun. I think it was the airiest fresh cream I ever had and I just wish I can fill my mattress with it.
I love you Lee Sung Dang bakery for making this humble traditional dessert perfect!
Thank you for watching!
