Coming to America: Jewish Immigration

Maggie Fraser Kirsh, Visiting Assistant Professor of Judaic Studies at The College of William and Mary introduces highlights of Jewish immigration (1880-1920) and the stories and literature that came out of that experience. Kirsh has a PhD in Modern European Jewish History and a Masters in Judaic Studies.

This event was the kick-off for The Yiddish Book Center’s “Coming to America” Reading Groups for Public Libraries, a program in which librarians arrange reading groups to discuss three books of Yiddish literature in translation, and one book related to an immigrant community served by their library.

The Yiddish Book Center’s “Coming to America” Reading Groups for Public Libraries is made possible by a gift from Sharon Karmazin.
