Release the hidden muscle keeping your body in stress all day
If you constantly feel like you can't breathe properly, your neck may be part of the problem.
If your breathing feels shallow...
If you catch yourself sighing all day...
If you feel tight through your neck and shoulders...
If anxiety seems to sit permanently in your chest...
The hidden culprit could be your sternocleidomastoid (SCM). Most people think this muscle just helps you turn your head but it's also one of your body's breathing muscles.
When your body is stressed, anxious or stuck in survival mode, the SCM often steps in to help pull air into the lungs. When it becomes tight & restricted, breathing can start to feel shallow, strained or stuck in your upper chest.
Your body has to work harder for every breath. Your nervous system interprets that as a sign that something is wrong and the cycle continues:
Stress → shallow breathing → more stress → more tension.
