The House of Love are an English alternative rock band. Formed in 1986, the band rose to prominence in the UK as a leading indie rock band in 1988 and split up in 1993, eventually reforming a decade later in 2003.

The band is best known for its detailed psychedelic guitar sound. The best-known members of The House of Love are singer/songwriter/guitarist Guy Chadwick and lead guitarist/backing singer Terry Bickers, who were the creative core of the original band until an acrimonious split in 1989 and who reformed the band together in 2003.

Babe Rainbow (released in 1992) is the only House of Love studio album to feature Simon Walker (ex-Dave Howard Singers as well as being Chris Groothuizen and Pete Evans’ bandmate in My White Bedroom). Walker had replaced Terry Bickers as lead guitarist in December 1989 and would himself leave the band in mid-1992 (to be replaced by Simon Mawby of The Woodentops). Former House of Love member Andrea Heukamp returned as a guest performer to add extra guitar and backing vocals.

The album’s producer Warne Livesey co-wrote two songs with Guy Chadwick – "You Don’t Understand" and "Feel" – which were the first House of Love songs not entirely written by Chadwick. Both were released as singles.

Babe Rainbow was not as well received as the first two House of Love albums and signalled the start of the band's commercial decline. The album's title comes from a picture by Peter Blake which was also used for the cover artwork.

I only have one source file for this and it is a Mixmash release. Video quality isn't that bad but it was plagued by a horrible fizz-grain that made it really look ugly in parts. I've removed it to about 99% and the tiny bit left you won't notice at all. Some parts of the video depict natural or man-made 'disasters' and these have a special effect noise added to the frames by the maker of the video. This special effect noise is a part of the video and I will ignore all who complain about it. Some sharpening and detail enhancement was done in the scale to HD resolution. Without a better source file to work with, this is the best result you will get anywhere.

Audio was a bit of a disappointment. It was dull and had a poor stereo image. Even the CD track was only slightly better. So I've taken the CD track apart in my sound studio and mixed it in with the first couple of seconds of video audio that is not included on the CD track. By tweaked the sound, I've given it a presence and punch it didn't have before. Sounds great now so turn up the volume knob.

I did this video a few years ago and it came out well, but since then I've acquired some new filter packages and worked out better ways to remaster. So here is this nice, rare blast from the past looking and sounding better than it did before.
