Can I Make a Component Autoswitcher From an Extron Crosspoint? Part 1

Part one in the Extron Crosspoint Autoswitcher series covers the basics of the Extron Crosspoint and it's biggest downside.

The Extron Crosspoint is a high quality professional video switcher that is coveted by retro gamers because it has so many inputs. It can switch composite, component, s-video, and RGB video signals. However, it doesn't automatically switch to the active console.

The good thing is the Extron Crosspoint has a serial command interface that can enable switching inputs and outputs programmatically.

I found a project on Github that senses active RGB scart inputs, and tells the Crosspoint to switch to that input. Can I adapt this project to work with other types of video signals?
