Over Time, Tony Kanal has changed some of the notes in the Pre Chorus. The new notes are only a half-step off from the original notes, but they still fit. It's going from more of a traditional scale approach to more of a pentatonic approach to the line. This change makes it much easier to play that part of the song. In the 2003 bilboard music awards, you can see his hand make a big uncomfortable stretch. In the newer clips, it looks much easier to play. His hand is in the same part of the neck and isn't stretching as much with those newer notes.
