Meet The Orangutans! 🦧🧡

🦧🧡The L.A. Zoo is home to six amazing Bornean orangutans. Eloise is our 56-year-old matriarch and the oldest female Bornean orangutan in human care. Her daughter, Rosie, is 43. Rosie’s half-sister, Kalim, 42, is mom to Elka, our 13-year-old youngster. Then there is Isim, 30, and Gangsa, 34. Guests can often spot these incredible apes climbing, lounging, and exploring through their habitat.

As a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), we proudly take part in the Bornean orangutan SSP (Species Survival Plan), a cooperative breeding program among AZA-accredited zoos designed to maintain genetic diversity within the North American zoo population.
