Elizabeth II (born 21 April 1926 in Mayfair, London as Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of York, Duchess of Edinburgh) from the House of Windsor, the eldest daughter of King George VI. and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, was both Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Head of State of the Commonwealth. On 6 February 1952, the death of her father George VI., Elizabeth was proclaimed queen. Her official coronation took place 16 months later, on 2 June 1953, held at Westminster Abbey.
