Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) - New level crossing with retractable rack at Oberwald
(Canton of Valais, Switzerland) 2010/08/22.

The 2010 newly built level crossing at Oberwald on Furka road. The first half of the video shows the level crossing open for the cars and bikes with the rack which if retracted inside the road so the cars and bikes can easily cross the railway track. A volunteer wearing a fluo jacket is waiting the steam train to leave Oberwald station. He is ready to manually command the closing of the level crossing when the train will come. You can see that, before and after the level crossing, the rack between the rails is higher than the level of the road.
When the train finally comes, in the second part, the volunteer manually commands the closing of the gates When the gates are closed look, in the middle of the road, that the rack is put in up position at the same level as the rack before and after the road. So the train is able to cross the level crossing by gripping the rack continuously!
This system is unique in the world!
