Duiyue Archway: A Frame of Gratitude #culture #history #fyp #architecture #ancient #china #travel

Named after a verse in the Book of Songs meaning "repayment," this archway was built by Gao Yingyuan in the Ming Dynasty to thank the Saint Mother for healing his mother.
Functionally, this archway serves as a "viewfinder," framing the stunning alignment of the Offerings Hall, the Flying Bridge, and the Hall of the Saint Mother behind it. The structure itself is a gem of Ming architecture, featuring exquisite wooden brackets (dougong) that blend the donor’s story of gratitude with exceptional structural beauty.
