A re-write of an old song, inspired by Liverpool's brilliant, but incomplete, Eurovision hosting on behalf of Ukraine in May ,2023

THE LEAVING OF LIVERPOOL (Eurovision 2023)

So Eurovision, it has come and gone
And the roadshow's gone away
Sweden won, and UK got gubbed
And all Merseyside's, forever gay

So it's fair thee well, to the Albert docks
Graham Norton and the BBC
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But Odessa when I think of thee

An invasion by the Putin thugs
Meant Ukrainians they could not host their show
So let's give them the help to liberate their land
Tell imperialism where to go

So it's take me down to Strawberry Fields
Ukrainians will never walk alone
So let's pray for the victory for the UAF
Then their refugees can all head home

Now there's another country, not so far away,
Where its people, they can not go home
Israel stole it back in 1948
Here competing, with a decent song

But I'll sing for "Free Palestine"
And Palestine, it will forever be
And for the people of Israel who will sing along
And together we shall set, both of them free

Cause freedom's cause, it can not be reserved
For the countries who align on NATO's side
If you want to have a peaceful world,
Back all people, when their cause is right

So let's all sing, "Give Peace a Chance"
But if there's no justice , it can never be
It's not the sanctions on Russia that grieve me
But the Western hypocrisy

So, it's take me down to Strawberry Fields

But Ramalah when I think of thee

So victory, to Palestine and to Ukraine
You'll never walk alone
So let's give them the help to set their people free
And to everyone who needs a home.
