High Current Adjustable Power Supply with LM317 + 2SC5200 | Powerful DIY Voltage Regulator
In this video, we’ll show you how to build a high current adjustable DC power supply using a combination of the LM317 voltage regulator IC and a 2SC5200 NPN power transistor. This is a boosted LM317 circuit, ideal for powering high-current DC devices, DIY electronics projects, and bench power supplies where voltage adjustability and load capacity are essential.
🔌 Input Voltage: 12V – 30V DC
⚙️ Output Voltage: Adjustable from 1.25V up to near input level
🔋 Output Current: Boosted by 2SC5200 (up to several amps depending on heatsink)

🔍 How It Works:
The LM317 provides stable voltage regulation with fine adjustment using a potentiometer. However, it’s limited in current (usually under 1.5A). By adding the 2SC5200 transistor in parallel (controlled via resistors), we allow most of the load current to flow through the transistor — relieving the LM317 while still maintaining precise control of output voltage.
This setup is perfect for powering motors, high-power LEDs, Peltier modules, audio amplifiers, and other DC-powered devices that require a variable voltage power supply with high current.
