What is the Circular Economy?

Every dollar tells a story.

When public institutions spend locally, those dollars don’t disappear. They circulate. They pay wages. They fund suppliers. They come back around.

That’s the power of a circular economy.

Here’s the data most people don’t hear enough: for every $100 spent at a local business, about $48 stays in the local economy. When that same $100 goes to a national chain, only $14 sticks around. The rest? Gone. Extracted. Reinvested somewhere else.

This isn’t about “local pride.”
It’s about economic self-determination.

A circular economy keeps Arizona dollars working for Arizona people instead of fueling distant boardrooms. It’s how communities become resilient instead of dependent.

If we want stronger local businesses, better jobs, and neighborhoods that can actually weather hard times, this is where the conversation has to go.
