A quick note on why each one made the list:

🌊 Seaweed snacks — A single serving can deliver hundreds of times the daily iodine requirement. Excess iodine can paradoxically suppress thyroid hormone production, especially in people with Hashimoto's.

🍞 Processed bread — Many commercial breads use iodate dough conditioners, adding iodine you don't see on the label. For people with celiac disease, gluten also damages the gut lining, reducing how much levothyroxine gets absorbed.

🥛 Milk — Calcium binds to levothyroxine in the gut and carries it out before it can be absorbed. This is why the standard guidance is to separate dairy from your dose by at least four hours.

🧂 Sea salt — Microplastics and cadmium are often present in sea salt. Iodine content in sea salts is wildly inconsistent. Some varieties deliver excess iodine, others almost none, making thyroid management harder to predict.

🍬 Hard candy — Red 3 dye is built on an iodine molecule and is roughly half iodine by weight. The FDA banned it in January 2025, but products can stay on shelves until 2027. you can also find this in a lot of strawberry flavored products.
