Firefly Squid - Watasenia scintillans

yes i drew it

The firefly squid, or Watasenia scintillans, is a small cephalopod primarily known for its advanced bioluminescence. Measuring only about three inches in length, it is covered in light-producing organs called photophores that emit a deep blue glow used for communication, luring prey, and counter-illumination camouflage. This species is most famous for its annual spawning migration to Toyama Bay, Japan, where millions of squid illuminate the shoreline from March to June. Despite their complex behavior and visual impact, firefly squid have a lifespan of only one year, dying shortly after their migration to the surface.
