Rawhide | Nokie Edwards and RJ

We lament the passing of Nokie Edwards, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Nokie Edwards first played bass guitar for the founders of the Ventures, Don Wilson and Bob Bogle. The Ventures are the most successful instrumental rock n’ roll band and the largest album seller 2nd to the Beatles. Bob Bogle played lead on “Walk – Don’t Run” and “Perfidia” and other early albums of the Ventures. Then Nokie took over the lead guitar chores and Bob shifted to bass.The band released over 100 albums opening the door for many aspiring electric guitarists in the 60’s. The likes of John Fogerty, Joe Walsh of the Eagles, George Harrison and many of today’s rock guitar icons were influenced by Nokie and the Ventures.

THE LOST TAPES - Nokie went to the Philippines for concerts with RJ Jacinto – a close friend of the Ventures and the most popular Guitar Icon in the Philippines. RJ produced 5 CD albums with Nokie playing lead. Kept in the vaults for 20 years, the first of the batch titled “Nokie Edwards Hot Licks’ was released coincidentally at the time of Nokie’s passing 2 days ago.
